BACKGROUND
Stephen Grace has been the official "Ottawa Agent" for the Attorney General of Nova Scotia for over 30 years. He has also acted as Ottawa Agent for various private and public legal organizations from coast to coast. He has argued cases in the Court and became fully familiar with its processes and procedures.
Michael Chambers has regularly acted as Ottawa Agent in Supreme Court of Canada matters for various legal groups and is actively pursuing his practice in this area.
The firm accordingly has extensive experience in Supreme Court of Canada matters including the following:
- Applications for Leave to Appeal, including advising on time limitations and extension of time;
- Motions for Stay of Execution;
- Review of materials to satisfy printing, serving and filing requirements of the Supreme Court of Canada Rules;
- Drafting, reviewing and critiquing Factums, Appellants and Respondents Records, and Books of Authority, both on Appeal and Cross-Appeal;
- Motions to state Constitutional Questions; Motions for Interventions or for ancillary matters involving the decision of a Judge or the Registrar;
- Obtaining information on progress of the case through the system, including providing time line charts and checklists for format;
- Scheduling, Hearing and Re-hearing of Appeals; and
