Advertising and Marketing

Whether you are an athlete, a sports organization, an advertising agency or a company seeking to develop a marketing relationship with an athlete or a sports entity, Maclaren Corlett’s lawyers have experience in the myriad of ways that these relationships can be structured. Whether you need expertise in sponsorships, co-promotion, endorsements, player agreements, exclusivity or other types of marketing activities, our lawyers can help. There is more to Sports Law than surrounds the athletic event itself.

Intellectual Property

Intellectual property issues arise in many aspects of Sports Law and specifically in relation to co-promotions, co-branding, jointly created intellectual property and future rights to property created under various types of agreements. Our lawyers can assist you in resolving these issues both in Canada and other affected jurisdictions.

Sports Organizations – Governance and Administration

Maclaren Corlett has been closely involved in organized sport for several decades with one of our lawyers even having served as President of the Canadian Olympic Committee. Michael Chambers is currently a member of the IOC International Forum for Sports Integrity and all three of its Expert Working Groups. As Chair of the Governance and Ethics Committees of the Organizing Committees for both the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and the 2015 Toronto Pan and Para Pan American Games, Michael offers practical expertise on sports governance and ethics issues to blend with our legal team’s collective experience with sponsors, brand owners and not-for-profit entities. Our team brings a unique expertise and perspective to the governance and administration of sports organizations.

We invite you to contact Michael, GordonMary or Megan to discuss any potential matters or questions you may have with respect to Sports Law matters.
